Tent Dress, I mean, gown camping tent

Barb sent me this fascinating work by Robin Lasser as well as Adrienne Pao … it’s a series of photos of gowns that are likewise tents.

This is the “Ms. Homeland Security: unlawful entry gown Tent,” about which the artists say:

… the unlawful entry gown Tent, originally installed below the California/Mexico border, includes armed forces blankets embroidered with the names of those who have lost their lives crossing the border. Those who seek sanctuary below the skirt are implicated with their own connection to border issues. In this way, the gown tents address body as well as land politics as they interface with the nomadic nature of contemporary life.

I don’t understand why artists’ statements don’t just state “I believed this would be [cool|beautiful|moving], as well as look! I was right.” this might have stated all three …
